Zebra-tailed Lizard (Callisaurus draconoides)
Zebra-tailed Lizard (Callisaurus draconoides)
Typically skittering across sandy spaces and taking cover under brush, this lizard often lifts its tail when at rest so that a predator will try to catch its detachable tail rather than its body. This one has also lifted its toes both fore and aft in preparation for a high-lifted run for safety.
